Games@lemmy.world•Day 637 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playingEnglish
1·13 hours agoI didn’t finish 4 personally either, but it was my 5th time playing the same themes if the Wii entry is included. Fans of the series claim 4 to be the best plot and say it’s the most fleshed out- the longest of the entries’ stories apparently.
The first game is still my favorite as it was fresh then, it had a lot of QOL at the time that Harvest Moon didn’t yet.
The only unique farming mechanic in the game was that the different dungeons and temples had different climates allowing you to grow crops out of season in them. The dungeons have variety, and contain different creatures, but nothing too complex that it stops being a cozy game.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Concerned Ape took the inspiration of combat in the mine from Rune Factory, Stardew combat is like a simple version of it. (RF having more weapon variety, Magic Spell casting, and Monster taming. The lite fantasy RPG elements are what made me stick around).
The first one has a much simpler story, I think you should try it out, but the second entry lets you play as your child that you have with your spouse which is refreshing once you’re that far in the game. So that might be up your alley too!

1·14 hours agoVintage gaming?? Runescape??
I played during the height of it’s Runescape 2 popularity in middle school and I don’t think I’m that antique yet. 😭 Minecraft released while I was a high schooler playing alpha and the kids still like it!! I’m not old!
RuneScape’s age shows more I think because it was entirely playable in a browser window (which came with its limitations). Aside from having a hefty chunk of free content, this is what I credit its success to.
My poor self was happy to be playing anything on the, even at the time, old family PC. A choppy fps low polygon RPG on a java game, because that’s all I could afford, was quite swell after school with my friends online. Anyone could just pull it up on theirs, no DL.
It was accessible and didn’t require a lot of machine power. It’s got a player base today not because it’s a fantastic game, but because there’s a lot of people who are nostalgic for it.

1·14 hours agoIf you like Stardew, try out the series Rune Factory. They are very similar games only Rune Factory has a JRPG aesthetic and plot. With some light monster collecting to replace livestock.
Really? Where? Most communities I see are so obsessively upset about the inadequacy of LLMs that it is concerning.
This place requires a bit of curation as to what you subscribe to and block, unless you like back to back Trump and Linux posts, with the occasional tankie propaganda sprinkled in.

ADHD@lemmy.world•Is this a normal response to methylphenidate / should I switch to a non-stimulant?English
19·1 day agoYes, it’s so common. Yes, it’s normal. The meds work amazing, and I’m miserable when they wear off because I lose that lucidity and control that they grant.
As long as you trust yourself to be responsible, I wouldn’t worry.
Possibly relevant, methylphenidate had the weakest efficacy of the stimulants I have taken, (me and my health team have tried 'em all), maybe talk to your doctor about an extended release amphetamine, if it doesn’t work as good for your chemistry or you’re still worried a good doctor will switch you back to what works best.

1·1 day agoMiniclip, Newgrounds, and similar felt more like mini games.
For free and in browser with some actual progression, I can think of RuneScape and those Artix Adventure Quest series games. I played both, but Runescape definitely felt like more of a complete game with 3D models and all.
God, I had forgotten how bad those Artix games were til I remembered them just now.
Unfortunately, I could spin a chunk of the verbal support I receive as sort of patronizing regarding mental health. It can be reductive at times and I definitely get where you are coming from.
There is so much stigma surrounding mental health still, people stress the validity of the struggles because there are people who definitely call those experiences invalid. Even someone well meaning trying to help can accidentally invalidate your mental health symptoms.

1·1 day agoRunescape also was a free game at a time when those weren’t really common. I honestly can’t think of any others with the scope of RS.
Not only was it free, it ran entirely in a browser window.
That’s how it managed to build its player base, and it coasts on that nostalgia to this day.
OP & the couple hundred who voted up this garbage.
Yeah this bill is pathetic, but this is the lawmakers serving their shitty constituents what they voted for.

Games@lemmy.world•Hot Take: most modern games are designed to purely kill timeEnglish
12·2 days agoThere was a time where it seemed AAA game developers and publishers released games that attempted to extract cash from the population by releasing a game that was such a quality experience that people will pay for it.
Oh well.

Technology@lemmy.world•First AI Model From Zuckerberg's Wildly Expensive Superintelligence Lab Flops Compared to Virtually All RivalsEnglish
1·4 days agoTo quote Frank Reynolds: “This is America: you’re either a duper or a dupee. I’m a duper. You guys are the dupees.”
Zuckerberg does not care if his products are culturally significant, the cash keeps rolling in.
I am deeply sorry you were born that way. 🥀
If you recognize these things as scissors the emoji can’t really be called a fail in all fairness.
Whoever felt any sort of smug for this has a mental illness.

Oh yeah, I didn’t think RS was very popular before RS2 so I wasn’t aware they made an original RS server later on.
