A national effort to circumvent the Electoral College has gained another state.
Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed a bill Monday that adds the state to the National Popular Vote Compact, an agreement among states to award their presidential electoral votes to the nationwide popular vote winner.
With Virginia, the total number of states signed on to the interstate compact is now 18, plus the District of Columbia, for a total of 222 electoral votes.
The compact doesn’t go into effect, though, until there are enough states signed up to reach the required 270 electoral votes to elect a president.

What?? It’s grown even more than I expected. It was at like 150 votes when last I checked
Shocked we haven’t got Wisconsin in on this yet
Until recently, the Wisconsin state legislature was heavily gerrymandered to give Republicans supermajorities despite it being a purple state with an almost perfect 50/50 split. They were never going to let Wisconsin join since the electoral college gives their party an advantage and gives their state extremely disproportionate influence.
yeah wisconsin has been going in a bad way. At one point it was clear which you would more want to visit between wisconsin and indiana. Now not so much.
At least Michigan, no?
Is that just the blue vs red map? Maybe I’m overlooking something, but I don’t see any red states on board.
And of course they wouldn’t be, between the capped electoral votes, the capped size of the House, and the setup of the Senate gives red land too much voting power.
It’s sorta wild that Nebraska isn’t on there since they already split their vote.
