USPS is technically not a government agency. They are a company owned by the government (Amtrak is the same way). It is not government funded (except when Congress decides they should give them some money).

Honestly, as a cyclist, I think the textbook hand signals are kinda stupid. The reason you don’t just point to the right is because you want to be able to keep your right hand on the front (more powerful) brake. As a result, nobody really knows what you’re doing. Just point where you’re going. Unlike in a car, everyone can just see me fully. I can even make more complex gestures. When there’s a sharp right and a slight right at the same intersection, I can point to which one. I can flip the bird. Endless possibilities when I don’t confine myself to the same limitations as a car. Also, if you’re feeling saucy, there are helmet lights that actually have turn signals in them which is kinda neat.
Edit: I got my front and rear brake mixed up. That’s what I get for riding fixed too long.
That’s all fine until you actually need the site. If it’s your bank, payment portal for your new apartment, scheduling page for your doctor, etc. Not every site is optional.

5·16 days agoI was involved in a similar issue with the Toyota BZ4X. It’s built on the same platform as the Lexus RX but it’s much heavier because it’s an EV. I was helping wrap up installation of the hub unit production line when we got word that the wheel fell off of an EV during testing. We had to scramble to reconfigure the production line so that the hub units had studs instead of bolt holes.

World News@lemmy.ml•Zelenskyy issued a decree allowing a parade in Moscow on May 9, 2026 on humanitarian grounds discussed with the US. During the event, Red Square is excluded from Ukrainian weapons targeting
63·17 days agoThis is kinda smart. Likely nothing was going to happen during the parade anyways. Russia would direct enough air defenses around Moscow to take down any drones Ukraine might send. This would mean that other targets would be slightly less defended than usual. Making this statement so late means the air defenses are already in Moscow and the clear skies is perceived as a gesture of goodwill by Ukraine.

World News@beehaw.org•Russia snubs Ukraine’s unilateral ceasefire and fires dozens of drones
5·19 days agoWell the upcoming Russian unilateral ceasefire is during a military parade in Red square with many top officials including Putin in attendance. I think it’s safe to assume that Ukraine will try to put some warheads in that square then.i thought for sure Russia would respect Ukraine’s ceasefire in order to buy clear skies for their parade.
What really gets me is when people think hunting is immoral but they eat supermarket meat. That cow that you’re eating lived a short life of torture vs a deer that lived in the wild until it was processed into a full freezer of food. The only people who have a moral leg to stand on against hunters are vegans.
Hell some of the scientists came to the US and were the head of the Apollo program.
Agreed. But modern ideologies didn’t exist back then so they shouldn’t be used to describe historical ways of thinking.
I’ll leave the Roman history alone since idk the first thing about it. But I want to push back on the broad definition of fascism. Fascism isn’t just whenever there’s violent power. It’s a specific ideology that emerged after WWI in Europe. It’s a hypernationalist rejection of the status quo. It distills the will of the people into one visionary leader and removes traditional limits on his power to bring the nation forward. Imposing modern terminology on ancient societies is just trying to create some grand narrative of history that happens to be climaxing.
There’s an old saying “the US doesn’t lose wars, it loses interest.” I think that’s a bit generous but it highlights how the US is often in unpopular wars that the imperialist leadership wants but the people don’t. For Iran, this is a fight for survival of the regime. The gulf states would probably rather Trump not start the war but now that it is started, they probably want the US to actually wipe out the regime so Iran can’t build back with their toll money. The US is trying to add credibility to their threats to get concessions at the negotiating table. That probably won’t work against Iran who has nothing left to lose. Trump might actually not care too much about the midterms since he’s not up for reelection and he’s consolidated power enough that he doesn’t need a ton of congressional support. I think he’s overplaying his hand. I bet that before the midterms, you’ll see a “mission accomplished” banner and a withdrawal and threats against Europe of they don’t start to get their navys involved. Europe would probably rather continue to decarbonize than get tangled up in Iran. The gulf states will break with the US. Oil prices will stay high for everyone.
That was pretty early when he was still running against Biden. At most, it was a temporary surge. Even if he won off the back of it, there’s just no evidence that it was a false flag or anything like that. It’s an enormous claim to make with zero evidence. I don’t see how it’s helpful to believe in that. Why is it hard to believe that the most divisive politician in recent memory has had multiple people try to kill him?
Do y’all actually believe this was a false flag? That’s just pure contrarian conspiratorial thinking to me. Trump didn’t gain anything from this. He actually looks stupid because the interviewer used the shooter’s manifesto to humiliate trump. There have been 3 assassination attempts on Trump iirc and none of them meaningfully changed anything.
IMO, the right’s biggest success over the past several years is the attack on truth. Even leftists now believe the established narrative must be wrong. That’s not skepticism, that’s just tribalistic contrarianism.

6·1 month agoI know one of the guys that this statistic is describing. He basically made no meaningful connections after college despite living in a few different big cities. He got into Jordan Peterson and “got more religious”. Weirdly, he actually isn’t interested in going to any churches. Anyways, he’s a full on fascist now and I cut off contact.

You gave an example of the Tennessee vote not representing the people and then implied that the people voting are to blame.
