It turns the absolutely cheapest hotdog into crispy skinned tasties. It is now my default method of all tube meats.

Boiling is the worst way to prepare hot dogs. Even a microwave can produce better results. Boiling causes juices to leach out and the texture is no better than when it was taken out of the package.

In my other comment I said how I love them boiled but this reminds me - when I was around 5 years old I used to sneak to the fridge and eat raw hotdogs. So maybe that’s why I love them boiled today?

You can cook them in a regular oven or fry them in a pan. Anything is better than boiled.
Boiling is really only best for Sabretts.
I used to drive to the local Home Depot just to get the hotdogs they sold out front, then I learned they were so good because they were boiled and I just started doing it at home.
Anyway, my point is, boiled hot dogs are the best hot dogs!
When I was in college my room mate boiled hot dogs in my electric tea kettle and I still haven’t forgiven her. It was in 2004.

Lol that is nasty! I once got the flu after eating 2-3 hotdogs (I was a teenager) and puked them up. The taste of them coming up stopped me eating them for about 5 years. I imagine hotdog flavored tea wouldn’t taste much better

I worked one of those dirty-water hot dog carts back in the day. Those things just sat in that water all day, sometimes 2 or 3. That’s where all the flavor is.
I didn’t know people willfully boiled their hotdogs. Just pan fry it.
