Arch in that context is an adjective, an “arch smile” being the example that immediately comes to mind. It’s old English and I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say it, just read it.

I play a lot of poker and I went for “bust” in blue at first. Took me a while to see “hole” since “showdown” isn’t there.
