Did you read what I wrote? I am with you on this issue. I’m simply saying humans are so wealthy as a group that some major event or disaster wouldn’t affect us how it would other animals, or in the past.

Ffs… in this hypothetical it would be a problem if governments do nothing about it. It’s a huge provlem under capatalism. We as a species have so much food and spend so many resources on it that doubling the cost of food wouldn’t be a problem. We could offset this increased cost by consuming cheaper food. The food we eat today is so much better and safer than it ever has been.

I can eat cheaper things and so can most people. Some can’t and that’s kind of a separate problem.

Okay so the U.S. government should have to interact with however many private companies with their own standard for storing data, and then handle contacting the consumer and figuring out how to get the refund?

The whole thing is bad. Having to give refunds directly to consumers is near impossible to implement in any reasonable way.

Edit: the biggest hurdle is by far scammers. The U.S. government has historically been terrible at sussing them out. No way anyone’ll find a pile of receipts. Noooooo shot that could be a problem.

Racism isn’t inherent to capitalism. Racism in the U.S. is very low yet capitalism still exists.
