i could not care less about infidelity in the context of american politics.

Infidelity says something about trustworthiness. And liars.
It mostly says something about the material conditions of a person that is within a society that forces monogamy which severely punishes those that aren’t.
I just don’t think it really adds to the argument. If someone walked like a Nazi, shot like a Nazi, wore Nazi tattoos, then claims to be a leftist while not working with any left orgs or using their current platform to create class consciousness, they’re already failing to take the most basic steps. Why add anything more? It’s adding a weak argument to a strong one, making it easier to dismiss.
