This might be a weird question, but I always thought that when I walked with only my socks on it felt somehow off when I was at my work place in the office. It does not only feel weird in my head but also the way they touch the ground. Like I somehow forgot how to properly walk.

It does not happen when I am at home! Even though I have a similar ground (parquet). I believe I also have that when I am at a friends place but not as much…

I thought about making a meme about that this morning but thinking about it more its not really that interesting. Still curious what you guys think because none of my coworkers think it was relatable in any way and looked at me funny.

Felt weird might delete later.

Yes. Waking on socks is weird, and the real question is “what risks are involved with walking in undiscovered places that are carpeted in socks?”

    Sometimes, yes.

I normally take my shoes off in airplanes (especially if it’s a relatively long flight), and sometimes I forget to put them on if I’m leaving my seat. It feels weird as hell.

I’ve also walked in socks on ships’ steel deck, and especially the ones with painted anti-slip sand feels odd.

It always feels weird to me if I step on the ground in socks when I’m switching into bowling shoes.

Similarly when a sibling would have swim meets in high schools and stuff sometimes I would run in the empty halls in socks with the other kids and that felt odd to my feet too

Yes! Thats definitely it. If the “stepping on the ground in socks when switching into bowling shoes”-feeling is not super relatable I don’t know what is.

Super happy im not the only one. Feeling less weird and just more unique already!

You consider your office an “undiscovered place”?

No, in general I don’t feel different walking on socks at home vs anywhere else. What matters is what I’m stepping on, of course.

The title was badly worded I have updated it :)

Thank you for your input though.
It might just very well be the structure of the floor and whats underneath in my office compared to home.

    Yes.

I also don’t wear socks without shoes (dog hair is a battle I lose every day) and typically don’t wear shoes unless I need to, so that’s a possible factor

I don’t walk in socks anywhere, so it always feels weird to do. At home, I’m barefoot three seasons of the year and wear socks with house shoes during the coldest parts of winter.

I try not to do it at all because when I do, it feels like every step is wearing away the fabric of my socks. It feels like I am making holes in them – especially the heel. Do not want.

It feels weird to walk in socks in an external/“low trust” environment. But it’s not like the ground feels weird, it’s like a constant thought in the back of your mind. I would consider an office a low trust environment but not a friend’s house. And it’s a similar feeling to leaving your phone unattended in the same environment. I don’t know if that’s related to what you mean.

I have a pair of work shoes that I leave under my desk in the office to change into, so sometimes I’ll briefly walk around the office in socks if I get distracted midway through that process. And yeah I guess that feels a bit weird?

But anywhere else (in my house, a friend’s or family member’s house) I take my shoes off at the door, so walking around in socks feels normal.

I’ve never experienced not being able to walk properly like that though!

It really is weird and hard to explain. I guess its just because my brain is so used to walking with shoes on when being in the office space that it expects it to feel different when walking.

Starting to think I will forever be alone with this ;(
