“I must say that I consider the phrase tax the rich — quote tax the rich — when spit out with anger and contempt by politicians both here and across the country, to be just as hateful as some disgusting racial slurs, and even the phrase ‘from the river to the sea,’” Vornado Realty Trust CEO Steve Roth recently said on an earnings call, commenting on New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s recently announced plans to tax luxury second homes owned by superrich people who don’t live in the city.

The irony of course being that charging a levy to people for using their things to make money is their favourite thing in the world.

However, when a country comes along and says “so, about all that charging for using other people’s things to make money. I hope you liked having access to our educated work force, our roads, our regulated sorry I mean “free” markets that all but guarantee you make a killing, we need to charge you for that” they act like you just asked to fuck their mum.

“Calling me a greedy hoarder when I’m greedily hoarding more wealth than hundreds of millions of people combined, by am doing it by exploiting them, which is also indirectly destroying the only planet known to support life… is exactly as offensive as a genocide
