  • I’ve been watching Angel Next Door and Isekai Non Biri S2 and have been picking at some of the new ones. Nothing has really got my attention this year but other respondents mentioned some that I haven’t heard of, so I’ll try those.

I couldn’t get through the first episode of Always a Catch. It looked like something I’d enjoy but it just felt flat. Same with Miss Maid Simply Loves to Eat.

The others I’ve watched and will stick with for now are Kusunoki’s Garden of the Gods and The Klutzy Class Monitor and The Girl with the Short Skirt.

Neither of them are amazing but they’re both really enjoyable, in very different ways.

There are some stakes in Garden, but the MC isn’t aware of them yet. It’s been fun to watch to learn more about Japanese spirituality and religion. It’s very cozy.

Klutzy Class Monitor has no real stakes. It is bonkers and I’m loving it. The female MC is basically the only “reasonable” person while most of the other characters are fun caricatures of high school anime tropes. It is fun to watch and to enjoy the weird ride that happens each episode.

  • Most of what’s available is geared towards digital nomads or retirees or those who can afford a “golden visa.” If you fall into one of those categories, they’re pretty easy to find with a web search.

I don’t fall into any of those categories so I’ve been researching countries in which I’m interested and going from there. I speak a couple of other languages fluently and have lived in a 3rd-world country before, so I am not looking for communities of expats. In fact, I’m trying to avoid them.

Honestly, most of what I’ve found about places that are geared towards expatriates gives me a bad vibe. That is, they are colonizers, trying to turn whatever town they’re relocating to into a mini-US, pushing out local businesses and residents and replacing them with monolingual “entrepreneurs.”
