I like to remember that America recovered from the robber barons and monopolists of the Guilded Age. It’s unfortunate that the thought rides tandem with the fact that it took a major world conflict and America seizing control of the world economy, and the America that emerged was really only great for white people. But maybe modern progressivism is less racist than it was and the next social revolution will be class based instead of race based. A guy can try to hope, a little bit as a treat.

Volunteer firefighters are not unpaid, that not what volunteer means in this context. They are not full time, professional firefighters, they have normal jobs and when a call goes out, whoever can make it drops what they’re doing and goes in. But they absolutely get paid, very well, for their time, from the tax payers dollar. Or by directly suing for restitution as with my car accident. $1700 for a gaggle of looky lous
