I’ve started using Ecosia after years of using DuckDuckGo. I find that the results are better. DDG has been slipping (and I used NoAI version), giving me way too many LLM-generated sites and putting the actual stuff I want way down the list (or on the second page). I haven’t had the same issues with Ecosia. It’s not perfect, but I’ve become a fan.

I’ve owned an 2012 Nissan Leaf and I currently drive a 2017 Kia Soul EV. I will never go back. Those Chinese cars are awesome, though (too bad can’t get them in US). I live in Hawai’i, on O’ahu, where longer range is not needed. My Kia still gets about 125 miles to a charge (if I finesse how I drive and don’t run the A/C) and I can go from one side of the island and back on that. But I had the Leaf when I lived in Florida and it got maybe 50 miles to a charge and that was… well, I learned about “range anxiety” with that one.

What I really dislike about the newer US EVs is that they are, increasingly, enormous. My Kia Soul is perfect. But the US is obsessed with every vehicle being the size of a studio apartment for some reason.

I’m wondering if this is due to the fact that so many politicians (and, thus, members of regulatory bodies) are OOOOLLLLLLD and need the night to look like the inside of an Apple Store in order to drive.

Also Democrats tend to have a higher proportion of post-high school degrees. While that’s not a guarantee of being smart (I went to college with some DUMB people who managed to graduate–all happened to be business degree students with a right-leaning bias, fwiw) it does suggest a higher concentration of people who’ve engaged with critical thinking.

On my timeline, this is appearing right above the story about the Israeli soldier destroying the Jesus statue.

I happened to see a photo of his right side the other day and noticed that there is a little nick in the outer part of his ear cartilage, right about where the darkest red part is on this photo. And there’s that photo of the bullet going past his head where he grabs his ear and there’s blood on his fingers. I’m guessing that the bullet was close enough that maybe the air around it caused a wound? But there’s no way a bullet full-on hit his ear.

Regardless, I agree that it wasn’t staged. Just not as bad of a wound for him than they want us to believe (can’t say the same for the volunteer fireman, though…)

I mean, it’s my favorite book of the Bible. But it’s the most easily misunderstood and misinterpreted. The whole thing is an allegory written in a particular kind of prose, drawing on tropes common to a genre of writing scholars call “apocalypse.” But given that even lifelong Christians are unaware of this fact means that this is definitely not the book to recommend reading as an entry point. Unless you’re looking for inspiration for something to airbrush on the side of your bitchin’ van (hopefully one with a crescent moon bubble window on the back). Then by all means flip to the section right before the maps and get to sketching!

Well, I’d argue that most of MAGA is evangelical, who tend to view Catholicism as either “fake Christianity” or a kind of quaint remnant of an older time that Protestantism fixed (and evangelicalism perfected). So most of them are already on board with the idea that the Pope is bad.
