I like Apple products because of the aesthetic and familiarity for sure but another big part of that is they don’t collect my data for ad targeting, ostensibly. Google does that in spades - it’s the raison d’être for Android and Chrome, and Google’s source of income.

But if Apple is going to start doing that one thing they claimed didn’t do, I may just consider switching to green bubbles. Fuck them.

I think this is more of a putting a billboard by the highway scenario than user tracking. If you search fast food, they can charge McDonald’s a lot of money to always be the top slot.

Your location and ads that you see and interact with in the Maps app are not associated with your Apple Account, and the data is not shared with third parties.

      Fta

This always feels like a cop out though

In a future where everything will be “Kirkland” brand products, we won’t need no advertisements.

I wonder if that’ll apply to CarPlay. Can’t wait to see if that causes any accidents…

We’ve known this for a few weeks, what’s new about it? Or are we just gonna get brow beaten about it until we just agree to switch to Android, or just block the people posting about it?

I don’t like it either, but if nothing’s changing, why keep reminding us? I don’t see a call to action or even a Change.org petition here.
