EDIT:

  1. the Piefed post eventually appeared on Mastodon after ~1.5 hours. I don’t know why it took so long when it’s usually instant.
  2. I “tagged” two user accounts in the Piefed post, but those user accounts appear as just plain text on Mastodon, so I don’t know if those users have received notification.

I made the below post assuming it would appear on both the threadiverse & the “microblogiverse”(?)(Mastodon, Misskey, Pleroma etc), as I have seen other Piefed posts of mine do.

See other of my Piefed posts on Mastodon

But that post about NeoDB has not appeared on the microblogiverse. I thought the necessary element was Piefed tags, but it has those and hasn’t appeared.

  • Any ideas why not?
  • Any ideas how to get it to show up?

Thanks

    https://ohai.social/@[email protected]

This URL sends me back to Piefed.

A while ago I was experimenting to see if I can post once across Threadi and microblogiverse (this needs a better term), while it was possible, I remember it being tied to some sort relationship between the community name (on Threadi) and an identical hashtag on Mastodon.

I never adopted this approach because there was no way to use one universal template (e.g. Threadi post image, for a URL post, becomes a post with an attached image on Mastodon).

The general impression I got is that Threadi <> Mastodon posting is very delicate and doesn’t work with all use cases.

Perhaps someone needs to first subscribe to the #neodb hashtag on ohai.social? But your post on another community where someone on ohai is already subscribed to the same hashtag would go through…

Sorry I don’t remember the details, but hopefully this is at least somewhat helpful.

Re the link, this is how it appears when viewed on ohai/Mastodon

      B00UD4xCuD4Fr6i.webp

(The post count listed at top is just 2, but there are dozens & dozens of posts viewable when scrolling down.)

My ohai account is already subscribed to #NeoDB AND it follows my piefed account (anything to try & make federation work 😁).

AND now I went back from “Followers” to “Posts” on that page, my last two Piefed posts finally show up on Mastodon! But I have no idea why it took over an hour for them to show up when the others times it was instant. Maybe one of the instances had “cross-format” federation paused for a while?

      So… sort of solved?

Yeah, I would give it more time than an hour; such delays did happen when I was experimenting with cross-posting.

This may or may not be of any use, but last time I experimented upon such, I found that tags (#) upon specific categories quickly showed up on Mastodon. I recall it working either near-instantly or after a couple minutes, FWIW.

I try to make sure I put tags on all my Piefed posts (many of which I subscribe to on Mastodon). I also follow my Piefed acct from my Masto acct (I’ll probably never understand fully how federation works but I hope that helps).

So usually my Piefed posts are noticeable almost instantly on my Masto, just not this time for some reason.

Because the tags weren’t citing categories, but… instances and users? So maybe treated differently in-system?

I meant the kind of tags at the bottom of Piefed posts

          6iYixEYEmWmOI0B.webp

I also mentioned someone by their user name, which is also called tagging. Wish there were different names for the two things.

It seems that user (one person, two accounts) did see my post as they replied to it.

Yeap, that was my understanding as well.

Good point. Maybe “user-tagging” works when a distinction is needed. “Instance-tagging, category-tagging, user-tagging, in-post tagging vs tagging-field tagging…” oh dear!
