My coworker outed himself as fucking awful. He was talking about the game and how he’s so hyped about it and then says “they even have pride parades, so you know what I’m doing!” and makes a gesture of loading a shotgun…

I figured he was that kind of asshole but he never said anything that direct before.

Did you ask him if the game had mosques too, and what he would do with those?

Maybe the game should have a Jan 6th style mission.

I mean, people do all kinds of things in games they never want to do in real life. Smashing up a parade with a shot gun would be fun. And if it’s pride, it’s even more fun because it’s just so wrong. You know?

When I was playing gta, I had so much fun just hitting people on the street. Who didn’t do that? And who didnt look at the girls in very inappropriate ways?

Games are games. It doesn’t mean your collegue is an asshole. When I was playing duke nukem in the 90s, I was playing co-op and I laughed my ass off when I killed my buddies with remote triggered explosives. I mean I was laughing so I got tears coming out of my eyes. :)

It’s just games. And when we start acting politically correct in games, it’s all over. We have become machines.

I get what you’re getting at, and to an extent I agree.

Simultaneously, to me it feels like there’s something off about being hyped up to specifically shoot up a pride parade in a game that has yet to be released. That feels very pointed.

okay, so behavior in games can be assholey, like if you go around explicitly trying to ruin someone else’s fun. (i have this asshole [former] associate who was one of those foul everyone in basketball, play rogue in dungeons and dragons and steal from everyone in the party and start fights, and then cry “it’s just a game” when people got mad at them) but if they’re just running around in RDR torching klansmen, tally ho comrade i’m in.

It’s news to me that GTA protagonists are typically upstanding moral citizens… I haven’t played GTA since 2, but I seem to remember going on mass killing sprees. Not to try and equate very different crimes but that’s gotta be at least in the same area code as mass child sex trafficking and abuse…

Going on a video game killing spree can be cathartic, gross as that is. I cannot say I would be anything other than revolted by being presented with the video game scenario of getting into the shoes of an Epstein.

It is interesting how sexual crimes are seen as so much more severe. Rape is seen as worse than murder. Also like, in gta you can murder, but fucking a prostitute is censored. Theres blood and death, but genitals would be too far?

Your comment implies that gta is for murderers, since they currently get their share of joy?

Your comment implies pedophiles are same as child molesters. Many pedophiles do not abuse children, knowing full well it hurts them - or simply being in fear of law enforcement

Same way, someone with violent inclinations may vent some steam doing a virtual murder spree rather than a real one. Win-win!

Yeah. Epstein gameplay is not GTA-esque (obviously) but is actually “ride a plane and make phone calls simulator”
