For the other uncultured swines like me:

    What Does “Inured” Mean?

To be inured means to be so used to something—usually something unpleasant or difficult—that you are no longer bothered by it. You’ve essentially built up a “thick skin” or become toughened.

    Synonyms: Hardened, habituated, desensitized, toughened.

The Nuance: You aren’t just “used to” it (like a routine); you are “accustomed to hardship.”

Okay, now I know the word, but I’m not sure what the sentence means. You mean Obama was open to criticism?

I slightly misused it, my bad. It’s usually used in context of “it doesn’t matter” - ie I meant “criticism matters” but you’re right that I didn’t use it strictly.according to the dictionary definition.

I probably just meant “immune” but wasn’t thinking deeply about it.
