His transition from the bow tie-wearing, “campus republican” twerp to the sun-tanned, lumberjack cosplay reminds me of people like Daniel Lawrence Whitney (Larry the Cable Guy), Tim Allen, or Mike Rowe. When one ‘character’ doesn’t land they develop another, and maybe another, then after a decade or two they just become that character.

It wouldn’t be a problem except that ostensibly “authenticity” is a big part of their grift, and a huge part of how they market themselves is to contrast themselves as “real” against others who are fake. But it doesn’t get less authentic than workshopping your character act for a few years before settling into whatever identity got you the most business.

Yeah, Daniel Lawrence Whitney stole his schtick from a guy called Bubba Whoop-ass Wilson who was a talk radio personality in the Orlando area (when both lived there). It’s like Kid Rock and how he’s actually from Detroit but now pretends he’s a Southerner or whatever (his aka “Bobby Shazam” on Wikipedia is just… what a name). But what I wonder is how often this happens the other way? Like, I can’t really think of anyone who cosplays as a lefty–at least not on this level.

If trump hadn’t gotten him fired he’d still be licking trump’s shoes on air every night.

He’s still licking putin’s shoes, regardless.

Tucker Carlson has not had some kind of awakening. He makes his living getting people to listen to what he says. The tide has turned enough that he recognizes it’s time to get out of the water. That’s all.

I can’t help think this is all part of the game… Trump era is just a small part of a larger plan.

We are funding this all. We are giving them credibility just by going along with the narrations they feed us.

It’s time to understand that corruption has fully colonized institutions terminally.

We can’t vote this away. We can’t hope this away. We can’t good deed this away.

It’s time people awaken to the denial and come face to face with reality. It’s surreal and hard to believe but it’s the truth.

Something is happening that will make even nonbelievers fear evil once they understand the reality.

      We can’t vote this away.

What do people really mean by this? Usually I see it in the context of both-sides-same, democrats-bad, third-party-can-win, voting-is-a-scam.

If the point is, instead, the broken worldview of what we used to call Fox News Viewers will continue even in a new administration, it seems slightly more valid, but not a whole lot more. Voting is the steering wheel of the country. Why abdicate that?

Consider a (let’s say) 12-year period of progressive, socialistic policies that improve the lives of the lowest 99%. Would the Qanon / anti-science / hick fascism coating the underside of political activity go away completely? No, but it would be greatly reduced.

Not putting faith in voting seems contrary to addressing the issue. Nothing by itself will make “this go away”, but voting is a huge multiplier for either direction.

I think what is often meant to be articulated when people say “you can’t vote your way out of this” (and I hope I’m not putting words in anyone’s mouth) is:

Voting alone, without other forms of collective resistance, tends to reinforce the illusion that legitimacy flows from the ballot box but refusing to vote doesn’t break that illusion; organizing beyond the ballot does.

I’ve often hear another argument that “voting = consent” for a corrupt system but this line is preposterous when used to shame voters. But the spirit behind it, that participation in a rigged game can normalize it, is worth taking seriously.

The answer isn’t to stop voting. The answer is to vote and build power outside the electoral arena (mutual aid, strikes, direct action) so that voting is just one tool, one that can often afford the necessary space for the others to do their work.

He’s just mad because he didn’t get a compensation kick back position in the admin. He will say whatever he thinks will keep his opinion relevant.
