Yeah, most of their stuff has a 3D printed element. This is some cheeky marketing for a small company that, to my knowledge, has always done right by the maker community. I don’t think this particular one has a public repository yet, but pretty much everything else does.
It’s almost certainly a PCB, firmware, and case for a ThinkPad style pointing module. The ergonomics come from the freedom to put it down where you like or integrate it into an ergo-split keyboard. Ploopy is very good about open-sourcing the CAD, firmware, and BOM for their stuff.

Ooof. The “comic” is a drugstore greeting card that’s less saccharine but equally banal. The real shitpost is making me see both.
After 65 years, you still call Grandma darling, beautiful and honey – what’s the secret?
I forgot her name 5 years ago and I’m too scared to ask her what it is!

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Texas school sent waiver for parents to allow kids to be coached by sex offenderEnglish
20·6 days agoThat’s specifically from the Jeezus-y homeschool-centric baseball academy and travel team that actually employees him. One district, Southlake Carroll (they of the “rich racists” NBCNews podcast and just generally obnoxious try-hards), had him listed as an authorized outside coach. So not exactly from a school, but absolutely and horrifically education-adjacent.
No worries though! There was also the nominally public charter school in San Angelo, which still has their Christ-centered mission on their about page from when they were a creepy Christian private school, who just had to fire the football staff and half the adminsitration for giving a bunch of kids rhabdo and then covering it up. Their sister school had to fire all the kindergarten(!) teachers because they marched misbehaving children around the room so the other kids could shout “shame!” and point.

DIY@slrpnk.net•Are you looking for sketchy overhead storage you can roll up? Look no further (and don't stand under them)!English
1·7 days agoNothing precise. I have tons of DIY nonsense in my garage, but when it came time to suspend storage from the ceiling, the consequences of it’s failing would mean significant damage to the ceiling, the contents, my car, and possibly the garage door. As long as you use sufficiently strong hardware and follow solid practices for how to mount things, it should be fine. Just not something I was wanting to do.

- The New Madrid fault is a slow beast, but not to be taken lightly. There are large lakes in that region that exist solely because of earthquakes changing the path of the Mississippi River.
- I once drove through Cooter, Missouri on my way to a wedding in northwest Tennessee specifically to send my wife a cheeky postcard, and those motherfuckers didn’t postmark it until they’d carted it over to the next town with a larger post office. My disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined.

Lots of text and flags to parse today, and lots of stuff, cars in particular, to place decades, but Portugal got me. I said Malta. Also guessed Frankfurt instead of Vienna.
Pretty sure this is Jacksonville Florida, my hometown, and generally an accurate sense of of the vibes there.

2·11 days agoOverhead loads just sketch me out in general.
Same, especially as a fellow practitioner of the dark arts of “this unrelated device looks fit for purpose.” We had some large purpose-designed overhead trays prefessionally installed above our garage door, and while they’re each rated for a pretty hefty load, first choice for what to put up there was always items that are not very dense for their size. I will mess with a lot of stuff, but fucking with HVAC, weight-loads on ceilings, or in-wall plumbing and electrical is not for me.

2·11 days agoIs it the same basic concept as its friend between the next set of rafters? If so, I might be more concerned about the piano hinge than the rest of it, as those are usually used to support lids versus gravity rather than loaded up carcases. I also might go for some metal strapping on your joist to reinforce the pocket holes. I’m not all that familiar with how awning gear boxes work, though. What holds the cable in place when the box is stowed?
All in all, I am not too terrified of this one, which may say more about me than about your handiwork (LOL), but some lag-screw hooks and some rope or chain (and a stick if they’re too high to reach) might be a good accessibility compromise to keep anybody from getting clocked if something does fail.
Having attended several red state universities, I chose to take it as a statement that alongside the ubiquitous plaza preachers, who are never affiliated with the school and are generally no one’s favorite campus characters, there’s also plenty of standard college silliness and shenanigans. Apart from the big blue cities, the college towns of the south are generally the most educated and forward thinking enclaves of their red states, hence the huge pressure campaigns from their governors to being the schools themselves to heel.
