Ultimately the #fediverse needs to solve the problem of maintaining context in postings. I’m not sure what the real solution is, but I think #lemmy in particular needs work doing on the #activitypub side of things.

@terabyterex @cm0002 Yeh, two things I’m starting to really dislike about the #fediverse are epitomised in this post: the need for click-bait to get attention and the disconnect (double in this case) between the original source (a news site) and the appearance of matter in a generic information browser. This is almost as bad as embedded advertising.

@davidgro The way that #Rust guards memory is completely different to the way Java or Basic does. Rust is a fully compiled language suitable for systems programming, and the memory protection all happens at compile time; the runtime actually gains speed through the compilation process, rather than having the memory protection slow it down.

The real difference is that the Rust compiler actually reads into the code it is compiling, rather than just making a mechanical translation.

@Retro_unlimited @Lemmchen This is one of the big things about #foss: there is no cause for restrictions, other than what the hardware can provide. None of this, ‘Buy the Pro version to make a longer movie’ nonsense. If the software breaks your machine, you get to keep both parts and the author is not liable!
