Global News@lemmy.zip•Traders placed over $1bn in perfectly timed bets on the Iran war. What is going on?English
10·10 days agoIt used to be a few tens of thousands of dollars of perfectly timed, suspicious bets. Then it became millions, the hundreds of millions, now a billion. Someone is getting greedy.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•What happens if all the money ends up in hands of billionaire's corporations?
17·10 days agoThat is an ongoing process, but it looks much different from what you imagine. Even now, a large part of the economy is working for the top 10 percent, producing luxury goods and services. Wealthy customers provide the biggest margins for companies.
“Regular” customers are getting more irrelevant every day. There was a time when your role as a consumer was important for the economy. This role gave you power and influence because companies were competing for your money. This era is slowly coming to an end, something most people haven’t realized yet.
If you talk about the problems people actually have, and you suggest solutions without getting distracted by dancing clowns, you win elections. In the US, Zohran Mamdani demonstrated it, and in Hungary, Peter Magyar. The problem is, many politicians are easily distracted. They think they could score points by pointing out problems in the clowns choreography, when they should be talking about their agenda instead.
I’m getting the feeling they just put a dancing clown in front of us so we don’t start talking about real problems and demanding solutions for them. I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but the entire Trump presidency is one big distraction. We could be talking about and working towards solutions to societies problems, but now the news cycle is a 24/7 clown show.
This is a work of art. Epstein, Bibi, that ghoulish lady… I love it.
As if lines like “Open the fucking straight you crazy bastards!” are so much better.

Weird ass pictures like this are less surprising once you realize that all religious art is just Bible fan art.
