It’s said that in casinos the bank always wins, but Trump manages to somehow still lose as the bank

If you have a Kindle that is recent enough to still get updates, chances are it can’t be jailbroken right now and you should prevent it from automatically updating if you ever want to have a chance at jailbreaking it. There are no known exploits to jailbreak the most recent Kindle firmwares (>= 5.18.6) and if one is discovered, Amazon will likely release a firmware that patches it shortly afterwards.
In order to prevent updates, first connect your Kindle to a PC and delete already existing update files, if there are any (named
update-???.binor similar). Then you have essentially two options:- keep your Kindle permanently disconnected from the internet
- fill your Kindle’s storage with (junk-)files until there’s not enough storage left for update files
See here for more info on preventing updates.
After your Kindle is successfully jailbroken, you can delete the junk-files and reconnect it to the internet without any issues.

Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•Why the banks want a cashless society
29·10 days agoIt’s so weird that digital infrastructure is still treated so different from traditional infrastructure in so many ways. Plumbing and electrical networks are run by the state, why not treat fibre networks the same way? Same with digital vs traditional cash.
I would just guess Polish for every word that has a Z. Probably not entirely correct but I doubt I could improve much from there

politics @lemmy.world•Erika Kirk event booted off high school campus after backlash from students and parents
5·13 days agoThat’s true for previous chancellors but not for Merz. Yet another thing where he sets a negative example. His wive was a somewhat vocal in his election campaign and the district court led by her attracted negative attention when it bullied a political opponent of Merz by illegally issuing a search warrant (German source). She did of course dispute being personally involved, but it smells fishy anyways.

7·13 days agoWith people like her I wonder if she actually genuinely believes in her values or just determined them to be most profitable to her. And I’d argue that the latter would be even more evil

politics @lemmy.world•Trump says gas prices 'not very high' as most U.S. voters blame him for price spike
7·13 days agoTrump said those prices are not as high as what was expected from the war
So if we believe him, he expected it to be even worse and still went ahead?
It’s yet another symptom of late stage capitalism in a nutshell. Everyone wants to reap the short term gaina, no one want’s to invest in the future. Everyone wants highly skilled and experienced employees to work for them but no one wants to invest in young employees and train them.

Privacy@lemmy.world•"Parents Decide Act": New US Congress bill proposal requires all operating system providers to verify ages.English
9·15 days ago“Patents decide” is a very thin veil around the personal data grab this really is. If parents so decide, they are perfectly capable to set up the correct ages for their children without handing any sensitive data over to bog tech. And if they decide to not care about age restrictions, they could still use their personal info to verify as adults on their children’s devices. This bill only benefits those, who can collect even more data then
I’ve said it time and time again: AIs aren’t trained to produce correct answers, but seemingly correct answers. That’s an important distinction and exactly what makes AIs so dangerous to use. You will typically ask the AI about something you yourself are not an expert on, so you can’t easily verify the answer. But it seems plausible so you assume it to be correct.

I’m quite happy with my 8BitDo 2 Ultimate, which has many features of the Steam Controller like TMR sticks, 4 extra rear buttons and gyro and has a better polling rate at 1000 Hz and is cheaper (~$56). It does however lack the track pads and advanced haptic feedback of the Steam Controller.
