It’s not. I’m in the UK, and ever since brexit (spits) I’ve wanted an EU passport. Pre brexit, I spent several years in European countries, had a home, a job, friends, etc. I’d intended to do it again later in life, and now I can’t. Different countries have varying levels of strictness in what they require, but it’s just not feasible for me.

Universal healthcare is one of those things that’s not only tricky to set up but also to keep going. Here in the UK, yep the NHS is amazing. But it’s also terribly underfunded - despite taking over 10% of GDP (IIRC) we still have long waiting lists, and healthcare staff are overworked and underpaid. Greedy vermin are constantly looking for opportunities to privatise it, the only reason this hasn’t already happened is that it would be hugely unpopular. I’m pretty sure almost everyone in the country would prefer more taxes be spent on the NHS and maybe a bit less on, say, fossil fuel subsidies - but here we are. Still, it’s one of the few things our country can actually be proud of.

Yeah, governments all over are trying to implement the same shit, and I agree it’s coordinated. Many governments are also looking seriously at stepping back from reliance on US big tech firms though. Not that homegrown oppression and surveillance is any better.

Thanks! Yeah, it’s horrible. Plus some parts of the US still use the death penalty. I’m not immovably against the death penalty - some people are just that irredeemable - but it definitely shouldn’t be an option in any legal system that can’t be 100% sure about guilt. At present, none of them can be that sure.

That’s really fucked up. It almost guarantees that there’s gonna be a percentage of people who are totally innocent but take prison time in a deal because they are threatened by too much more. In my country the system is the opposite - too lenient, which isn’t necessarily bad if accompanied by work to rehabilitate and reduce recidivism, but there’s very little of that either.
