Technology@beehaw.org•Deezer says 44% of new music uploads are AI-generated, most streams are fraudulentEnglish
9·1 day agoThis is part of why I buy instead of streaming. There’s no “AI”-generated music on my computer or phone, and no entry point for it.

U.S. News@beehaw.org•In article about horrific shooting that killed eight children, Forbes lets readers place bets about gun controlEnglish
4·2 days agoForbes is not at all what it used to be, but rather is a blog host. It’s been an unreliable pub for some time, so this is totally on brand. One thing the story omits is how users get these coins for wagers in the first place, since no cash is involved. I have some theories, but that’s just speculation, and this is a stupid reason to engage in that.

U.S. News@beehaw.org•Judge blocks repairs to Camp Mystic, where 27 girls died in floodEnglish
4·3 days agoI’m not going to look back into it, but I seem to recall the camp was about religious indoctrination, not safety. The former is paramount in Texas.

U.S. News@beehaw.org•Judge blocks repairs to Camp Mystic, where 27 girls died in floodEnglish
4·3 days agoHere’s an idea: Rebuild on higher ground so you’re out of the floodplain. Government has rejected doing anything sensible like installing warning sirens in event of flood, so this is where we’re at.

7·3 days agoAt the request of the Steward family, who wants the Guadalupe River site to be preserved for evidence, Travis County state District Judge Maya Guerra Gamble last month temporarily blocked Camp Mystic from renovating or altering it.
I have no fucking clue why this case is being handled in Travis County court.

3·3 days agoGiven that Trump is as crazy as he is as a teetotaler, he sure does like to surround himself with alcoholics. Maybe Patel has to drink to keep his eyes in his head.

1·4 days agoJesus fuck; who is writing heds at NPR these days? Past “giant,” this is all fiction. “Giant” is also a problem for other reasons.
“Judge halts merger between two TV conglomerates pending trial”

4·4 days agoTrains? What are these “trains” of which you speak? Admittedly, the Northeast Corridor has something aspiring to be high-speed rail, but the line only runs up the U.S. coast. I was taking ICEs in the '90s across countries in Europe. We simply don’t have that here.

1·4 days agoThis seems like a snapshot, not an exhaustive exploration. In the future, I suspect we’ll hear more.

As usual, we’re not getting the whole story. There’s plenty of stuff the company doesn’t make public … “national security” and so forth.
