Not knowing your own licence plate number is indicative of being out of touch. Normal people need to know it to operate many parking ticket machines, when paying their registration, car insurance, parking in hotel car parks.
I can imagine when you have assistants to do all this you might think it’s a boon to have a digital assistant help you with basic world skills. Even just the arrogance of asking an LLM for tyre information instead of asking someone at the tyre shop.
I think you’ve really misunderstood bow ties.
I do think it’s weird that Plex decided to put hardware transcoding behind a paid membership, so that’s obviously a negative, but it sounds like the argument for jellyfin is that it’s free but you get less. That’s ok, I’m not dragging jellyfin through the mud on this, but you have to admit many people think their Plex purchase is worth it compared to jellyfin.
So…
What is the argument for jellyfin? It’s basically the exact same thing without the relay servers or no-setup remote streaming and sharing.

When someone gets kidnapped there’s no CEO that can go to jail for a privacy breach. Data breaches typically stay out of the news, if it becomes public the victim company can face legal action. It can literally be cheaper to quietly pay the hackers.

So, it sounds like it doesn’t offer a remote streaming service like Plex then. You just publicly expose or use a VPN like you can with Plex.

You can get around this by extending your network with a VPN. I know that’s an extra config, but a lot of people who are setting up home labs are already doing this anyway.
How does jellyfin offer remote streaming without a VPN?
I remember seeing a bit of Oprah on TV and they were talking about changing the toilet roll. She was saying how she recently discovered it only takes 30 seconds to change and her advice to viewers was that you could even change it while you were on the toilet. A fully grown woman was telling the world that she just discovered changing the toilet roll. How out of touch can a person be?
Technically recording TV on VHS is piracy, but in practice no one is getting sued for it.
