  • snuff film

    noun

A movie in a purported genre of movies in which an actor is actually murdered or commits suicide

A film that shows, or purports to show, the actual deliberate killing of one of the performers.

Sorry but no, that is the misconception I’m speaking of. Back when this was originally posted months ago it prompted me to look it up, finding the definition, which quite clearly through the use of the words “actor” and “performers” does differentiate it from simple videos of death/murder to mean a scripted work that contains a death/murder. Which makes more sense in the “snuff films are a myth” context, because quite clearly “videos of death” are verifiably real, which would put that entire debate to rest.

  • May you take solace in learning that no, the zion-15s (their name not mine lmao) are not actually good. They have some good parts, B5 furniture if that’s your thing (I prefer others but B5 is “good”), one of them comes with a Timney trigger if that’s your thing (tbh I just like a good ol’ milspec schmid), but barrels aren’t CHF nor chrome lined, and their barrel nut is a pain (more of a nitpick but still.)

More importantly every one I have seen came with some sloppy crap from the factory like misaligned flash hiders and buffer tubes and handguards. One flash hider was completely not torqued, just hand tightened. Just sloppy workmanship that speaks to the quality control, mistakes happen but that’s too frequent. Most of the parts themselves are ok but nothing special, and at that price you might as well save up a couple hundred more for something better or build your own.

The Jehricos are good though, especially the older ones, and you already have it there’d be no sense in selling it unless it starts Sigging out.

  • Just a heads up,

Most of my tools won’t run, (you can likely find alternatives for most, barring adobe)

most of my self made tools won’t run, (well you can fix that, now can’t ya? You made em once you can make em again)

most of my games won’t run, (Destiny player? Seems most single players run these days, but yeah the kernel level anticheat “required” by many online games renders them unplayable, because even if they do run like destiny you just get acct banned for playing on linux. This is the fault of the companies though, not on linux or its community for hating the kernel level spyware, of course.)

most 4 decades of internalization of shortcuts won’t cut it short anymore. (Actually you may be surprised, many windows shortcuts still work on KDE, and you can configure them however you want if there’s something missing. Plus you’d learn any “new” ones quicker than you may think.)

But yeah that said it isn’t for everybody. Just gotta weigh the cost/benefit, is it worth it to you to learn a little about a new UI to escape microsoft’s actively hostile anti-consumer practices, or would you rather just grin and bear it for “ease” (though it could be argued that “learning the new thing and being done with it” is actually easier than dealing with windows, just that learning the new thing frontloads the “hard” while dealing with microsoft is a constant annoyance. But I digress.)
