A French MP whose constituency is in Israel authored a law that will punish the following with 5 years imprisonment and 75k EUR fines:
- Implicit provocations of terrorism
- Minimizing or trivializing acts of terrorism in an outrageous manner.
- Trivializing the Holocaust by, for example, “comparing the State of Israel to the Nazi regime” (quote from the MP)
- Calling for the destruction of a state. This would include advocating for a one state solution.
Looks like the law might pass, although there’s a big petition against it.
The new law is called “loi Yadan” after its author Caroline Yadan, a MP who represents French expatriates living in Israel. The U.S. has congressmen paid by AIPAC: France has cut out the middleman entirely, we have MPs whose constituency is literally in Israel
Expats being allowed to vote, much less having constituencies, is frankly insane. If you leave your country you no longer get to have a say in its affairs. Also this
Her district does also includes Italy, Greece, Turkey and Cyprus… But apparently French residents in Israel outnumber french residents in all those countries, 80 000 out of 140 000. Israel literally just has an MP in the French parliament.
