Call it the reverse Return to Silent Hill effect
I’m glad to see an indie film doing well but u have my doubts as to how good a movie by Markiplier can be especially considering he’s not an actor and it’s based on a 30 minute game.
he’s not an actor and it’s based on a 30 minute game
…neither of which are true? He’s as much an actor as anyone else in the industry, he just doesn’t have a giant distributor behind him. He’s a member of SAG-AFTRA, this was a union movie. You might not like how he performs, but that doesn’t make him not an actor. And since you haven’t seen the movie, your opinion is moot on that point.
And the game is definitely longer than 30 minutes. It’s eldritch/cosmic horror, so definitely not everyone’s genre, but Mark and David did an astounding job bringing it to the big screen.
If you speedran the game it could probably be as short as 30 minutes (or shorter, speed runners are practically wizards at times), but then you’re missing out on some good stuff. More importantly, you don’t need to be a nepo baby with millions in your wallet and dozens of agents in order to be an actor. Some of the best acting I’ve ever seen has been at local community theaters. Like all skills, you just need a good combination of skill, practice, coaching, and a bit of luck
I just watched it, and it was good imo. I played the game a couple years ago I think, and while the film felt indie in several places, I think they did a really good job with the budget and team they had.
The effects were pretty good (except some of the sub shaking scenes), the dialogue got a little mumbly, and they captured the feeling of the game. I’d say well done, and I’d like to see more people shoot for the moon with movies based on games. Hollywood sucks at it after all.
