    Total bollocks, drilling and extracting oil in the North Sea wouldn’t lower our costs because it wouldn’t be extracted by the UK Gov. They’ll sell a licence to drill to private foreign companies who will sell the oil back to the UK at market rates. The only money the UK would see is from the licence which is trivially small in the grand scheme of things, and wouldn’t be used offset to offset oil costs anyway.

    Utter tosh.

      most of the drilling sites that are still out there are below break-even, so they’d be needing the gov to reduce their share to make them profitable, making them even closer to totally pointless for the UK.

      EDIT: scratch that, “closer to totally pointless” implies there’s a tiny thin slither of benefit, there’s not because we do still pay the environmental price, we just get no benefit, so “closer to purely harmful” is probably more accurate.
