I usually post these on [email protected], but this is another non-B-movie showing! The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1974) is the movie for this Sunday’s “monsterdon” watch party over on Mastodon, our fediverse sibling!

  • Just start watching that movie this Sunday, Mar 22 at 9pm ET / 8pm CT / 6pm PT which is 1am Monday UTC
  • and follow #monsterdon over on mastodon for live text commentary. For example, you can follow that hashtag here: https://mastodon.social/tags/monsterdon
  • I usually open two web browser windows side-by-side on a computer. But you could follow the mastodon commentary on a phone app while watching the movie on TV or something.
  • it’s usually streamed on https://miru.miyaku.media/ at that time

The film follows the story of Captain Sinbad ([John Philip] Law) as he embarks on a dangerous quest to find the Fountain of Destiny after discovering a magical golden amulet. Joined by a vizier and a slave girl ([Caroline] Munro), he must battle the evil sorcerer Koura ([Tom] Baker) and mythical creatures to unlock the amulet’s powers before Koura can use them for evil.

The Golden Voyage of Sinbad premiered on 25 December 1973 and received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its stop-motion effects [by Ray Harryhausen] and fantastical adventure elements; however, some critics noted flaws in the storyline and character development. Commercially, the film emerged as a box-office success, grossing over $11 million worldwide against a budget of approximately $982,351. Moreover, it won the first Saturn Award for Best Fantasy Film.[3]
