I’m actually saying there’s mentally ill people on lemmy to push them to get help from the rest of the lemmy community. Shaming people in hopes of improving them doesn’t work in my opinion.

I’m mostly making this in response of other users expressing their fantasies of me receiving violence and death just because I considered borrowing a bike that I did intend to return without asking permission. Yes wishing death and violence on other people is a mentally ill thing to do. The users reactionary to any context I gave even when they asked for the context. fun part is they refused to explain any details I asked for.

The mentally healthy thing is to try your best to act in good faith, and just stop talking to a person that’s acting in bad faith. I legitimately don’t care about bad faith actors because I’ll assert my opinions about what I believe and how they’re acting.

You’re not mentally ill if you steal a bike, but it’s a shitty thing to do.

    too much toxic masculinity

That’s a concern though if you can’t understand what people are saying and you answer like that. Last but not least, when lemmy.ml disagrees with you on such topic, you did something wrong.

Anyway, everything you’ve shown is NOT an illness, mental problems are more serious than this.

I never actually considered stealing the bike so I’m fine.

Not understanding what people say is actually normal and everyday occurrence, sometimes people just use the wrong word(s) and the appropriate thing to do is to confirm what they mean.

I see that you’re being sarcastic lol

i read the thread. you posted a hypothetical, others responded with hypotheticals. at no point were you threatened or wished death upon.

considering that you admit in that thread that you don’t understand some of the idioms used, is it possible you misunderstood their meaning?

Lol gaslighting in the mental health.

So what idioms do you think I misconstrued as wishing violence upon me.

well the entire thing were someone had their bike stolen, took their car instead, and got in a traffic accident for starters. that wasn’t even about you but you reacted as if it was.

if you feel you were threatened, what was it specifically that did it?

i’m still asking if you considered the possibility before jumping to the conclusion “everyone here is mentally ill”.

That one was actually delusional. I legit looked Them like someone actually died because I borrowed a bike. They were dead set on me being a murderer too.

Also I didn’t say everyone here is mentally ill. I said there are mentally ill people on lemmy and you could work on yourself a little

no, it was a hypothetical scenario. you reacted as if they thought you’d already done it, but that wasn’t what they said at all.

yeah, you need to do the thing you want others to do: use the most charitable interpretation of what people say.

What does charitable mean in this context and why can’t I simply ask what they meant if I’m not sure.

Sometimes people just say things that don’t make sense. Example If it wasn’t for my horses I wouldn’t have gotten through college. Idk of the charitable interpretation is that they rode a horse through college campus or if horse motivated them to attend all their classes and get a degree

    1. Of course there are mentally ill people on Lemmy.
    2. Actual shame is the most powerful emotion to enact change in an individual.
    3. Wishing death upon someone will not induce shame.

shame is also pretty good at isolating the individual, reinforcing their distrust of others, and making you feel like a big brain morally correct guy in front of your friends. record results among progressive movements, we must feel very tired of all the winning this has resulted in

Eeeh I would feel shame if someone wished death on me if I was younger but that would be more about me experience, or inducing, conflict.

Honestly, just with numbers I feel like help here is hit-or-miss unless there is an obvious/straightforward answer. Personal issues, I’m even less sure about… might be easier for those who actually can make real connections with people here, but that sounds rarer still.

No idea on the bike stuff though. Except maybe the Arrested Development gag “And that’s why you always leave a note!” .

Lol I actually would have loved that response if I got that at the time.

I would say that something like 1 out of every 10 replies is relevant, accurate and insightful, the rest not so much.

I probably would recommend against posting personal issues on lemmy because there’s toxic people on here and they’ll assume the worst of you.
