Something tells me that their conclusion that there’s nothing worthwhile in a country of 1.4 billion people that covers nearly a quarter of the largest continent on earth, with 5,000 years of history, and incredibly varied ecosystems, architecture, cultures, and landscapes might be biased. They say they went all over. Its hard to imagine they didn’t go to at least 1 cool place.
The only not-awsome places I experienced were small rural border towns with nothing to do and pretty bad construction quality. Even they had decent, suprisingly diverse food.
Mainland China is also ruled entirely by an authoritarian regime whose presence is extremely notable to those tourists who aren’t interested in putting blinders on. For some people, that’s crap.
