The fact that “City of London” and the city “London” are different things sure tripped me up while reading the headline.
It trips everyone up. For weird, specific, historical reasons the City of London is basically the original Roman city limits. Everything else is Greater London. It’s one of those fun weird facts that Londoners like to use to fuck with people.
For people who don’t know, the ‘City of London’ refers to a specific small area inside the larger city known as London. It’s roughly one square mile in area, but has its own separate local authority, its own mayor, and even its own police force.
