The U.S. would become safer overnight. The police kill someone in the U.S. more than 3 times a day. If only swat teams or specialized response teams had guns most police interactions would be much more civil. Every situation with a cop becomes life or death because they brought a deadly weapon into the situation. Take out the deadly weapon, people don’t feel there life is on the line.

Even just having the guns in lockboxes and only removed when responding to an active shooting would make it a much better situation. Someone takes their gun out, they are placed on mental leave, and investigation as to why, and require a health care professional to approve them ready to go back to duty to ensure they aren’t just pulling them out for no reason.

        I absolutely support your points.

But the guards only carry halberds for ceremonial duties. Otherwise they are reasonably well armed, from personal sidearms to assault rifles.

Does Vatican have crime and immigration issues? I guess maybe some pickpocketing and homeless Italians sleeping in the Vatican? If even that. Trump didn’t really say that, did he?

Francis famously imprisoned and prosecuted Vatican officials for financial corruption. As the theological dictator of a sovereign state, he could do that.
