    No it doesn’t. That’s an extremely naive understanding of open source software.

    Open source is not the same thing as public domain. Linux and GNU are very much copyrighted and remain the intellectual property of the Linux Foundation and the Free Software Foundation, both are American organizations. Do not mistake copyleft license terms for “heritage of all mankind.” No one alive today will see public domain Linux.
