One big problem is that Ticketmaster/Live Nation holds a monopoly (thanks in part to lax US regulation). Who else are they going to get this data from?
Ticketmaster already powers other event listings across the Apple ecosystem, including Maps, Spotlight Search, Photos, and Shazam, so this is an expansion of the partnership.
Looks like they’ve been working with them for a while now - while Apple Music integration is new, they’re already doing this in other parts of the OS.
So Apple has officially moved into “do be evil” territory.
I still only use Apple Music for on-device music. Even when I had a free subscription, I didn’t bother.
