politics @lemmy.world•The Dam Breaks: Democratic Senators Overwhelmingly Reject Arms Sales to IsraelEnglish
8·3 days agoIt’s a bad play I think if that’s their plan. It shows that criticizing Israel is fair game, which has pretty much been against everything said in the past. It’s an admission that they think that what Israel is doing is wrong. You can’t put that back. AIPAC would not be in favor of this. If this is just appeasement, it’s at least appeasement that can be pointed at to show what’s wrong.
A few years ago I purchased an NVMe SSD, and an adapter, without thinking much of it. I try to use it, only to find out it isn’t recognized. My motherboard didn’t support it. I had to manually download files for it and patch in support to the motherbord’s firmware. You haven’t lived until you do this.
No, it’s terrorism. The media has just turned that into a bad word for anything they don’t like. The government using violence to make you follow the law? Also terrorism. Just read the definition. It’s just been made to be that the word terrorism is only used for non-state violence. It’s been turned into this purely evil force (typically done by brown people), rather than using the tools of violence to change behavior.

2·4 days agoWell, the idea was that the ones paying the toll are the only ones getting through, so, being far more generous than they deserve, the strategy is to make paying the tolls not worth it. Still, like you said, there was no way to enforce this reasonably. It was a weak threat that anyone could see wasn’t going to be enforced.

5·4 days agoSure, it’s good it isn’t enforced, but it shows how stupid he is. You don’t make a threat that you aren’t willing to follow through on. If you do, and they call your bluff, they aren’t going to take the next threat seriously either.
This is why the TACO thing is so important. None of his threats are credible anymore, so they don’t have any power. Trump thinks he’s strong, because he makes threats. Previous administration made far fewer, but they were credible, so they actually had power. Trump is like a child in that he thinks he can just make threats and get his way all the time. It’d be really sad if it weren’t so damaging.

3·3 days agoYeah, there’s no way to do that. You can use doubles yourself to track things, but the engine is always going to use floats. When you send data to the engine, it has to be in float form.
IIRC, UE5 actually switched to using doubles for everything. Standard size float makes floating point math faster to perform, but computers are fast enough now they decided it was worth it. It can now accurately store positions much further away without losing as much precision.
KSA is also using doubles I think, on their custom engine. They can do a cool thing where they can render multiple vehicle views at once, in totally different locations. KSP couldn’t do this because of floating point error.

Games@lemmy.world•Starfield PS5 players demand refunds, reporting widespread bugs and glitches that leave the game "unplayable"English
11·5 days agoDude, no one is asking for realism. Why are you strawmaning?
Play a modern shooter, and compare that to Starfield or FO4. They just don’t feel good. Weapons don’t have weight to them, and there’s no impact to them being fired. Your character barely reacts. You just run around spraying bullets, and it doesn’t feel like anything.
What it needs are good animations, recoil systems, camera punch, VFX, and things like that. Starfield and FO4 have almost none of that. It’s the bare minimum to not be absolute trash. If you’re comparing it to FO3, they’re fairly good. If you’re comparing it to something like Battlefield, Escape from Tarkov, or anything modern, not so much.
That’s not to say there’s nothing to enjoy. I think FO4 was reasonably good, and FO3 and NV were good too. I just didn’t enjoy them for the gunplay. It’s everything around that that makes them good.
Personally though, I think Starfield sucks. The story is bland as hell if you know much sci-fi (if you’re failing to appeal to the audience that follows the genre, you failed). Exoring sucks. Clearing dungeons is pretty boring after you’ve done the five dungeons a few times. The loading screens, even on an NVMe SSD, constantly take you out of the experience. I just don’t understand what there is to like. I’d rather play FO4 with a bunch of cool mods if I’m playing something like it, or Morrowind if I want a good Bethesda RPG.

1·5 days agoId helped with FO4 too. Sure, it’s a lot better than 3, but, compared to any other shooter, it’s pretty horrible.

3·5 days agoI haven’t tried it, but yeah, at small scales KSP (which is just using floating point numbers) is pretty accurate. It’s at large scales where it fucks up, which it does have to deal with too, being a game about traveling between planets.
I assume it probably would work though. The Apollo computers, as I’m sure you know, weren’t super complex. They basically just assisted the pilot. I’m not exactly sure what math they did, but it probably just had to do with descent rate/time to impact and stuff like that. Again, this is all just guessing. I don’t remember it.

Her husband is also still married to her and has decided that’s what he wants. Once he publicly steps out and condemns her, then I’ll argue for leaving him alone. Until then, he’s gotten to do what he wants on life while, at minimum, supporting someone who ruins (or ends) people’s lives who she doesn’t approve of. He’s not an asshole for this kink. He’s an asshole because he supports someone who has power to harm and condemns people with alternative lifestyles like him.

6·6 days agoYou can automate control of your craft in KSP with a mod. All you need is to have it send the data to the Apollo computer and then send the output to the craft. It should probably work with the real solar system mod.
Now that I saw this though, I swear I saw this exact video already. Scott Manley or someone may have already done this.
